The International Day of Women and Girls in Science ‘2023.

Hope is a powerful tool, idea and force capable of empowering many individuals.

Often, women and girls are deterred from pursuing science and mathematics related topics and subjects due to its difficult level.

We kick-started our “Dream” project by celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11th, 2023.

As an initiative centered on children empowerment and amplifying the voices of marginalized groups, we spearheaded this celebration in Sowah Din Memorial Junior High School.

From previous interactions and experience, it was clear that many students, especially girls, had doubts in pursuing Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related careers and jobs, due to the myths surrounding them.

This session, gave hope, and assurance to many young girls about the evidence of science in today's world, and the role we all play in advancing sustainable systems worldwide.

In breaking the bias, we echoed the theme “Innovate. Demonstrate. Elevate. Advance” for this year’s celebration and spent the day empowering young girls of the Kpone-Katamanso community.

The contribution of women and girls is evident in both history and modern times towards the advancement of science in healthcare, physics, engineering, education, technological developments and many diverse fields.

With over 250 girls actively participating in our engagement and empowerment session, we realigned their mindsets with the fact that science is everything around us.

Right from the fibers on our garments, to the phenomena that surround us, science encompasses numerous happenings around us, and makes the mysteries of life simple.

From breaking down the concept of science, we explained the link with Technology, the importance of Engineering and the essence of Mathematics, in building a sustainable future.

This opportunity gave us the chance to positively impact young ladies in our community as many girls asserted to pursue stem-related jobs and careers.

The session marked growth and a positive perception on pursuing STEM.

With smiles, excitement and a positive mindset, we challenged the misconceptions which discourage women in pursuing STEM related careers, and birthed an awakening to be the change we wish to see.

We ended the engagement with our hope segment aimed at inspiring, enabling and supporting their dreams, ambitions and aspiration.

Sadly, we drew the curtains with the distribution of our dream-starter-pack to our beneficiaries and guided them on how to navigate the future of making informed and guided them on how to navigate the future of making informed positive decisions in fulfilling their individual dreams.
